Vā Moana: Conference registration

‘Vā Moana: space and relationality in Pacific thought and identity’ will be held in Auckland and Honolulu on 24-25 (Aotearoa) or 23-24 (Hawai‘i) November, 2021. Read more about the conference and register via our website (click here). Please register by 26 October. Thanks to our Marsden grant, you do not have to pay registration fees.

For those in Tāmaki Makaurau, we had offered the potential of in-person attendance at AUT’s Ngā Wai o Horotiu marae. Given the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak and uncertainty around gatherings, we have decided this is no longer possible and we will attend entirely online. While this is disappointing, we cannot risk anyone’s safety.

In more exciting news: the conference lives on into next year! A third day (initially planned for November) has been postponed until March 2022 to facilitate in-person gathering for those in Tāmaki Makaurau. Tausiga ‘o Vā: knowledge sharing panel discussions day with Māori, Tongan and Sāmoan experts will be hosted at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland War Memorial Museum. We will keep you updated as plans unfold, and for those not based in Tāmaki Makaurau, rest assured that online attendance will be available.

Finally, speaker and presenters’ abstracts are now on our website, with session information coming later this week. We hope you enjoy exploring some of the fantastic presentations there are to look forward to!
